I have had to buy eggs a few times in the last 3 months. I sold off my older adult flock and replaced them with new chicks. The new girls should all be laying within a month. As I was making breakfast the other morning I cracked a store bought egg and them one of my fresh eggs. The one on the right is the fresh egg. The yolk was a richer yellow color and is much thicker and firmer. The store bought egg was pale yellow and runny. It has alot to do with the chickens diet. Although I buy organic eggs from the store they still do not get to run around outside, eat grass and bugs and get "treats" (our fruit/ veggie peelings, wilted produce etc) daily. Nothing tastes better than fresh eggs!
